Wednesday: Happy Pinning!

15 Aug

For as long as I can remember, the month of August has marked the beginning of the new school year. The weeks leading up to the first day were filled with shopping, checklists, and the last of the summer sleepovers. But this year I am not experiencing the back-to-school rush. For now I am done with school. I never thought I would miss packing for college. I never thought I would miss getting up early for school. I never thought I would miss reading great novels. However, now that I don’t have school in my life, I find myself nostalgic for the old school days. I am loving post-grad life, but I wish I could go back and experience the moments in the classroom one more time. I would definitely enjoy it and appreciate it more. Maybe one day I will return to school. Until then, I hope everyone enjoys the new school year. Best of luck and enjoy every minute because, like all the great things in life, it is over all too soon.

Here’s my back-to-school board:

Wednesday: Happy Pinning!

Happy Wednesday! So I need your help! I am currently working on revising and re-organizing a client’s Pinterest account. As I have been going through the process, I’ve had a difficult time balancing the personality of the company and brand with the personality that Pinterest users have come to expect. The company wants to increase their sales numbers and increase brand awareness through social media. But Pinterest does work like that. Pinterest is about sharing ideas. So how do I accomplish my client’s business goals while properly engaging in Pinterest? Also, the company has an authoritative and professional voice while Pinterest has a light-hearted, fun, and, at times witty voice. So how to I stay true to my client’s persona while using the voice Pinterest users have come to expect?

These are the difficult questions marketers are dealing with when it comes to social media. There is no one right answer. Thus, I will have to find what works for my client. After all, it is my job, and what a fun and challenging job it is!

Happy Pinning!

Wednesday: Happy Pinning!

1 Aug

Happy Wednesday everyone! I apologize again for the short posts this week. I promise I will return to full form next week once I’m more adjusted to my new schedule. Well, enough of my excuses! Keeping with the Olympic theme (can you tell I’m an Olympic junkie?) I have a task for you. Follow these simple steps to get the Pinterest perspective on the Olympics.

1) Login to your Pinterest account.

2) Search “Olympics.” Make sure you search pins, not boards or people (interestingly enough I could not find an official London Olympics Pinterest account).

3) Start exploring!

Pinners have pinned a multitude of photos, posters, infographics, articles, videos, and more. It’s a great way to experience the Olympics through the eyes of the general public. I saw a lot of photos and articles that I had missed on Twiiter and on the news. I hope you enjoy your Wednesday homework assignment. I’m signing off as I have an early morning. Happy Pinning!

What’s your favorite pin from this search?

Pinterest solves a lot of life’s issues. What should I make for dinner? Pinterest to the rescue! How should I decorate my living room? Pinterest to the rescue! What should I wear to work today? Pinterest to the rescue! Yes, Pinterest is a life-saver. This past winter they saved me by helping me come up with a gift. My boyfriend’s parents have a wonderful lake house. Over the last few years, I have spent a great deal of time at the house. It is a place they love, and a place I have come to love. Thus, I try to get them a gift for the lake every year. Last Christmas, I was having a terrible time coming up with a lake-related gift. But Pinterest came to my rescue. I came across a sign for a lake house (sorry I cannot find the original posting). It had the lake’s name with the coordinates underneath it. It was the perfect gift! After lots of shopping, painting, and hammering, the sign was finished. My boyfriend was very impressed with the finished product (He was most impressed with the fact that I used power tools). This summer when I visited the lake I was pleased to find the sign mounted on the back deck for everyone to see. Thank you, Pinterest, for the stroke of inspiration! You earned me a great deal of brownie points.

From Pinterespiration to finished product.

I have to admit it was a bit of a rough day for me. I was not looking forward to writing today’s post, but I have vowed to blog. So I went to my Pinterest account for inspiration for the “Happy Pinning!” post. As I looked over my boards, I came across one that I have not visited for quite sometime. It is entitled “Fun!” As I looked over the pins, my bad mood slipped away. Amazing how social media, specifically Pinterest, can improve your mood. See, there is a higher purpose to social media! Anyway, I decided to share a few of my favorite pins from my “Fun!” board. I hope these pins brighten your day just like they did for me! Happy Pinning!
